What is on the minds of millennials? Relevant issues among millennials can shed light on where our politics, culture, and businesses are heading in the near future.
MineMR Millennial Tracker 2017 listed a variety of topics that have appeared on political debates and media. Of all the issues listed, the number one issue that occupies the minds of millennials came out to be universal healthcare. Since the latest presidential election and to this day, healthcare issues have created never-ending debates between the two major parties in the US.
The second highest issue is safe schools, perhaps driven by the voices of those who just completed their education and those who send their children to school. Minimum wage has steadily increased, now reaching a new high of $11 in some states, and it continues to be of great interest to the young generation of the US.
Gender equality made it to top 5. On this matter, female and male groups show substantial differences in ratings, with over half of female millennials (53%) note gender equality as their top 5 issues, whereas only 37% of male millennials did so. There is certainly a need to raise awareness that everybody benefits when equality is guaranteed for all. Similarly, diversity garnered somewhat differentiating results across ethnicities. At a total level, four in ten millennials noted diversity as an important issue. This is largely driven by African Americans whose ratings for diversity was over 53%, whereas diversity was an issue for less than 30% of white Americans.
