Money Divide

At one point or another in our lives, many of us are told that hard work pays off. It is that proverb and mindset that drive us to chase our dreams and to put in the necessary sweat equity in order to reap the desired outcome in return. While the belief is generally applicable in business and in life itself, when it comes to income earnings in the US, it takes more than just hard work to receive the right level of fair pay, especially for women.

Women today, despite equally contributing to the work force (having the same number of those actively working) and attaining the same level of education achievements as men, continue to earn far less in annual salary. The income gap grows more apparent when looking at the distribution of men and women at each income level, fewer and fewer women make up the higher income share.

In today’s world made up of advancement across all sectors from technology to other areas of human rights, it is surprising to experience such a slow progression in the area related to fair compensation. A part of me feels that fair compensation, regardless of gender, is the foundation for progress and shouldn’t be neglected. After all, fairly rewarded workers result in better loyalty and work. A win-win for us all.
