The way you look tells a lot about you. The needs to be “presentable” at work, the simple desire to prevent aging of your skin, a solution to combat insecurity, all are common reasons for beauty products consumption. As a result, the industry that capitalizes on self-esteem and social validation is generating $57 billion a year in the US.

The magnitude of the beauty industry may be driven by the fact that putting on a make-up is fairly addictive. Once you start fixing your skin tone, wearing glamorous eye shadows, and enjoying shiny hair with beauty products, it is hard not to use them again. This habit starts early on as over half of teens wear makeup and the starting age continues to get younger over time.

Maintaining the youth of your skin seems to be the most common need. Skincare garners the largest share, followed by haircare and make-up. What type of beauty products can’t you live without?
