While we have a long way ahead to achieve gender equality in the Entertainment industry, the current trend shows that we are heading in the right direction. According to Center For the Study of Women in Film and Television, in 2016, a third of the top 100 grossing films featured female protagonists. While some might say the majority of films still tell the story of heroes. However the good news is today’s figure shows significant improvement over three years ago when the % of female protagonists were only half of what’s seen in 2016. When it comes to genres, we are most likely to see female leads in comedy or drama.
